During the Seattle Seahawks’ dominant winning streak in the early 2010s, runner-up “Legion of Boom” rose to stardom.
Led by cornerback Richard Sherman and safeties Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor, the Seahawks fielded one of the most feared defensive backs in the entire NFL.
However, with all three departing, Seattle began struggling at the back end of its defense … but now it boasts an exciting group of young talent, particularly at cornerback, who seem poised to return to the standard of excellence set under coach Pete Carroll.
With rookies Tariq Woolen and Coby Bryant topping their Day 3 draft picks and 25-year-old journeyman Mike Jackson breaking out, the Seahawks have three young cornerers who saw significant action in the team’s impressive first 10 games have, and each of them has managed enough to stay forward.
And according to Pro Football Focus, Seattle may not be done adding young talent to its cornerback space. With the 2023 NFL Draft still over five months away, college football’s regular season is drawing to a close and the top prospects have released a plethora of tapes.
One of those players is Georgia cornerback Kelee Ringo, who has been linked with the Seahawks as a potential team the PFF would “love” to see.
Pete Carroll loves nothing more than the height and length of his cornerbacks, and that pretty much describes the 6-foot-2, 210-pound ringo. The Georgia corner also has a low speed of 4.3 seconds at this size.
He would make Seattle an insane duo on the outside with 6-foot-4, 205-pound Tariq Woolen, who already made his mark as a rookie. – PFF analyst Michael Renner
Ringo is considered a top-15 prospect, and with Seattle currently leading the NFC West, the two may be out of reach … unless they’re not, thanks to first-round picks the Seahawks took from the Denver Broncos in exchange for quarterback Russell Wilson the past offseason.
With eight weeks remaining, this selection currently sits 7th overall and makes the Ringo to Seattle pairing…that PFF has accomplished in its latest mock draft.

“Maybe I don’t see him as that slam dunk top 10 cornerback prospect that I saw a year ago with (Derek) Stingley and Sauce (Gardner) and to some degree (Trent) McDuffie. But, man, in that defense, facing a Tariq Woolen – that’s a scary thought. They have a 6-foot-4, 205-pound corner at Tariq Woolen; They have a 6-foot-2, 210- to 215-pounder in Ringo who both run in the 4.2s… That’s just a tough cornerback group to physically compete against. – racer
Teams won’t begin session drafts until December, so it’s difficult to say for sure if the Seahawks have a genuine interest in Ringo. Considering Carroll’s “guy” at cornerback, the Georgia star, who sealed the national championship game last year, is certainly at the top of Seattle’s draft board.
But for now, it’s just a fun idea…or the complete opposite for offensive coordinators and receivers alike who would need to line up opposite the young, long, and fast corners of Seattle’s high school to recreate some of the challenges presented by the Legion of Boom years ago.
