Georgia Southern ends the regular season against App State next Saturday with bowl eligibility at stake
STATESBORO – Cam Fancher threw for 274 yards and two points while rushing for 63 yards and another touchdown to lead Marshall to a 23-10 Sun Belt Conference football victory over host Georgia Southern at Paulson Stadium on Saturday night.
Eagle of the Game:
Jalen White had 13 carries for 143 yards on the ground while adding a catch for 22 yards. Jeremy Singleton recorded eight catches for 73 yards Kyle Vantrease finished the contest with 22 of 39 for 205 passing yards and a touchdown. Marques Watson Trent in the process, a team-leading team scored 12 tackles, including one for a loss Khadry Jackson added 11 tackles.
key moments:
Marshall (7-4, 4-3 SBC) hit first when EJ Horton clinched a 65-yard touchdown pass from Fancher on the first drive of the game. However, the extra point hit the post and led to the 6-0 lead.
Jalen White Demolished a 55-yard run midway through the first quarter that resulted in one Alex Raynor field goal and took the Eagles (5-6, 2-5 SBC) to three, 6-3.
In the second quarter, Fancher delivered his second touchdown pass of the game, a 33-yard smash to Shadeed Achmed to extend Marshall’s lead to 13-3. On the next possession, the Eagles crossed midfield, but a fumble got Marshall the ball, and the Thundering Herd quickly converted a 19-yard touchdown run from Fancher to make it 20-3.
Kyle Vantrease drove the Eagles down on next possession and hooked up Khaleb Hood on a screen pass for a 27-yard touchdown that made the score 20-10 as the game went into halftime.
Marshall collected a field goal on his first possession to increase his lead to 23-10. The Eagles’ best drive of the second half included 11 plays and 71 yards early in the fourth quarter, but a tipped ball led to an interception by the herd, leaving 10:49 in the game and Marshall’s subsequent drive lasted just 11 seconds off the clock to decide the game.
