UGA have a pretty important game to prepare for this Saturday, but that hasn’t stopped staff from doing some work on the recruiting path. In recent weeks, UGA has been sending offers left and right and identifying new targets.
The Class of 2023 is also starting to gather as some dominoes are set to fall for UGA over the next few weeks.
Here we present some new goals to pursue and take a look at some recent developments in UGA’s quest for a second RB commit in 2023.
New goals
2023 RB Kyron Jones – Charlotte Christian (Nc.)
Jones signed for NC State last month, but he’s been one of the most sought-after players in the country ever since. UGA was offered on November 5, followed by Michigan State and Nebraska. Miami was offered in September and remains in the picture to this day.
Dawgs Daily spoke to Jones on Wednesday. He confirmed he was in close contact with Georgia to potentially play both running back and defensive back. He’s an elite track and field athlete, a box Georgia needs to check these days.
Jones is an elite two-way player and it seems UGA could recruit him on the defensive side of the ball. With a forthcoming decision from Daniel Harris, UGA is conducting its due diligence and keeping an eye on Jones. Jones is still involved with NC State, but he listens to the Dawgs and other programs.
2024 ATH Mello Jones – Swainsboro (Ga.)
Jones has gone from being an under-the-radar prospect on the trail to a national commodity in just a short span of time. UGA offered on the 18th, then Alabama extended an offer on the 22nd. He also has numerous other SEC offerings. Jones is a 6’1 180 freak athlete who can play both ways and is about to get a huge ranking boost.
After talking to Jones, I got a strong UGA vibe. He was very excited about the offer and had a lot of good things to say about the Dawgs. He also has family ties to Kirby Smart. However, there will be some competition as long as Alabama is in the picture. Expect him to add more offerings here soon.

2025 WR CJ Wiley – Alpharetta (Ga.)
Wiley has made a number of stints in Athens in the course of his recruitment and left with an offer to UGA last weekend. He also has offers from schools like Florida State, Miami and Georgia Tech. Wiley is a massive WR target at 6’4 200 and is thought to have an extremely high ceiling.
UGA has also offered Ethan Barbour a 2025 TE at Alpharetta. Both are extremely talented players, so perhaps UGA could get them in a package deal once the 2025 class rolls around. Wiley’s father, Chuck, played at LSU and was a six-year veteran of the NFL.
RB Intel
If you’ve been following, UGA’s pursuit of a second RB to pair with Roderick Robinson II was and is one of the biggest storylines in the UGA class of 2023. Justice Haynes, a five-star conscript from Alabama and UGA -Legacy, continues to be the best man for UGA in this position. His word on Alabama is still strong, but UGA will work on it as hard as they can until the end.
Jeremiah Cobb, a four-star Auburn commit, was apparently the number 2 option for the Dawgs. However, recent information suggests the UGA vapor has cooled and it is linked to the Tigers. Auburn’s recent hiring of Hugh Freeze hasn’t diminished Auburn’s chances of keeping him in the class, but the difference is Cadillac Williams remaining on Auburn’s staff. As we’ve reported, the people near Auburn were confident they could keep Cobb on board while Williams was on the prairie.
With less than a month to go until signing date, UGA could continue to push for Cobb or they could turn their attention to other prospects. Jamarion Wilcox, Jordan Louie and maybe even Kyron Jones could be the guys UGA picks things up with. There is also the possibility that UGA uses the portal.
