Georgia’s average gas price is rising

ATLANTA – Georgia’s soaring gas price remains one of the cheapest in the nation due to volatile oil prices and rising demand.

The average gas price in Georgia is increasing but is still one of the cheapest in the United States. Georgia drivers are now paying an average price of $3.17 per gallon for regular unleaded gasoline (subject to overnight changes). The state average on Monday is 5 cents up from a week ago, 9 cents down from a month ago and 8 cents down from this time last year. It now costs $47.55 to fill a 15 gallon tank with regular gasoline. Drivers are now paying almost $1.50 less to fill up at the pump compared to last month.

“Yes, gas prices have increased in Georgia, primarily due to increasing demand across the state and fluctuating oil prices,” said Montrae Waiters, spokeswoman for AAA-The Auto Club Group. “How high the pump prices will rise remains uncertain. AAA offers drivers money-saving tips below.”

National average trending down

Since last Monday, the national average for a gallon of regular gasoline is down 3 cents to $3.77 (subject to change overnight). Gas demand rose to 9.01 million barrels per day from 8.66 million barrels per day last week, according to the Energy Information Administration (EIA). Total domestic gasoline inventories fell nearly 1 million barrels to 205.7 million barrels. Tighter supply and robust gasoline demand would normally push pump prices up; However, fluctuating oil prices have led to limited price increases in some states.
