Phoenix police car involved in crash Friday afternoon

Several cars, including a police vehicle, were involved in a collision near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road on Friday afternoon.

PHOENIX — A Phoenix police vehicle was involved in a collision with several other cars near 51st Avenue and Thomas Road on Friday afternoon.

According to initial information, the police vehicle was hit by two cars. Witnesses say they drove at high speed.

The collision occurred south of the intersection of Thomas Road and 51st Ave.

One of the drivers was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. The other driver, a youth, stayed at the scene.

The two officers in the patrol car received medical treatment at the hospital.

The police vehicle appears to have suffered mostly frontal damage.

Phoenix Police said 51st Avenue will be closed from Thomas Road to Virginia Avenue while officers investigate the collision.
