TAMPA (November 19, 2022) – The University of South Florida women’s basketball team takes to the streets for the first time in the 2022-23 season when the Bulls travel to Fort Worth, Texas to face TCU in the Maggie Dixon Classic. Tip-Off is scheduled for 2 p.m. ET and the game can be seen live on ESPN+. The Green and Gold are looking to extend their season-opening winning streak to five games.

Florida State transfer and former McDonald’s High School All-American Sammie Puisis Leads three players by double digits in the rating column, averaging 20.0 points per game Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu and Elena Tsineke score 17.8 and 14.5 points per game respectively. Karl Brito is averaging 9.0 points per contest just outside the double digits to launch her college career.

Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu leads the Bulls in rebounding, grabbing 9.8 boards per game, and Brito is a close second, averaging 7.3 rebounds per game.

TCU goes into the game with a 2-1 record against South Florida after beating Lipscomb (69-62) and UTSA (74-67) on Nov. 7 in the season opener on Nov. 10. The Horned Frogs’ only loss was in North Carolina, 75-48, on November 12.

Tomi Taiwo leads TCU averaging 12.7 points per game, closely followed by Knisha Godfrey, who is averaging 10.7 points per game, along with 5.3 rebounds per contest. Emily Fisher is just ahead of a double-digit average in the points column, averaging 9.3 points per game. Bella Cravens leads the team with 8.5 rebounds per game.

Sunday’s game marks the sixth meeting between South Florida and TCU, with the Horned Frogs leading the series 4-1. The Bulls have never defeated TCU in Fort Worth, and South Florida’s only win came on February 2, 2004 in a 89-84 double-overtime thriller at the then-USF Sun Dome. All five games previously played in the series were played while the Bulls and Horned Frogs were members of Conference USA.

After TCU, South Florida returns to the Yuengling Center on November 22 when they host New Hampshire. Tip-off is scheduled for 7 p.m. (ESPN+).

South Florida recorded its 10thth 20-win season during the 2021-22 campaign while playing in his sixth American Athletic Conference championship game in his nine years in the conference. Reached the cops her highest national finish of the season when she checked in 13th in the Associated Press Top 25 poll dated November 30, and advanced to her seventh NCAA tournament appearance in the past nine years.

USF has made 17 postseason tournament appearances and has had eight NCAA tournament berths as a head coach Jose Fernandez22 seasons. Fernandez, the most successful coach of all time in program history, has led USF to 10 seasons with 20 wins, two WNIT Final Four appearances and the 2009 WNIT Championship, and won over 400 career games. Fernandez was named a finalist for the WBCA and a semi-finalist for the Naismith National Coach of the Year Awards. He was also named the 2021 American Athletic Conference Coach of the Year at the end of the 2020-21 season.

In 2021-22, the Bulls had three players recognized for impressive seasons by The American, including Elena Tsineke (All-Conference First Team), Bethy Mununga (All-Conference Second Team) and Dulcy Fankam Menjiadeu (All-Conference Second Team).

In addition, Tsineke and Mununga were named to the American Athletic Conference All-Tournament Team.
